I was reading the NY Times this morning and struck by a piece on a vid phenom called “The Story of Stuff“.  Its impressive, designed as an educational tool it breaks down the global consumption chain and offers a pretty frank an in my opinion 100% correct critique of the worldwide economy.  We can’t live sustainably under our current assumptions – what do you think?

Very interesting… The system is flawed but is it too late to change? only 4% of forests are left in America, that sounds like it is too late to change and restore… If humans have such a negative environmental impact, how long will it be before our planet says enough is enough and humans become extinct? our planet can and will survive with or without us, so it is up to us to choose. Shall we live with her, or shall she live without humans?

I understand your point, but I would say it is not too late for 2 reasons. If we accept that it is too late, then there is no reason to do anything, and inaction or surrender are absolutes I cannot and will not give in to. Second I honestly believe we can rebuild what we have destroyed. We can replant what has been cut down. We can clean what has been fouled. It requires two things, hope and will.
